PD Day Camp: Understanding your Carbon Footprint

These sessions will introduce students to human impact on the environment by exploring the concept of a “carbon footprint” and the various ways in which they use power in their day-to-day lives. This theme is part of our GenAction Program Series https://indusspace.ca/climate/.
Junior Session (Grades 1-5): Drawing Your Carbon Footprint
This activity will introduce students to the concept of a carbon footprint and energy usage on an individual level. Following introductions and a brief brainstorming session of the various ways in which students use energy in their day-to-day lives, they will be tasked with drawing a footprint shape with pencil and paper, filling out the pieces of it with the energy-consuming practices outlined in the brainstorming session. Once done, the session will end on a group discussion on the various ways in which students can “cut pieces” out of their footprint and reducing overall impact on the environment.
